COVID-19 pandemic

Announcement to all our Customers – March 19, 2020

Earlier this week, we announced changes to how Power Plus Mobility will run our business in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. I wanted to share some of these changes and some of my thoughts about what we’re facing and how we are responding.

Right now, our role as a medical device manufacturer is rapidly shifting, and we are striving to make the best decisions with two goals in mind: the first is to protect our customers, employees,

and their families. The second is to do the best we can to serve the Canadians who are looking to us for their mobility and independence needs.

  1. With our commitment to our customers and our protection of our employees, we have reduced our working hours from 8 AM to 3 PM Monday to Friday.
  2. As for our employees, we are currently running with 65% of our standard staff capacity.
  3. Our internal stock levels to produce and manufacture products are very healthy; unfortunately, we are at the mercy of some of our local Canadian business partners and their business models that may influence our production timelines.
  4. At this time, with the previous statements, we currently unable to provide an accurate ETA to orders on hand. We will do our best to communicate with you through out the process and provide our products in a timely manner.
  5. To help minimize the spread and reduce the risk, we have introduced a NO demo or no return on demos policy, this will apply to anything with a manufacturing date stamp of March 2020.
  6. Please contact your local account manager, our customer service department or me if you would like to discuss the clarity of the changes to our business model.

The situation and severity of this virus is changing day by day and hour by hour, I will inform you if we have made any further changes or if anything new arises.

Everyone is in the same place of uncertainty, as we are all looking for clarity. I remind you that we are all in this together. My best wishes to you and your families as we move forward together in strength.

Sincerely,

Jason Mohan

Back Extension Pins

Back pins are used to fit a back to the back post of a wheelchair. The pins are usually standard for a standard back on a standard back post. if you have a wider back post and a smaller back, you will need a longer pin depending on how much smaller the back is to the back post.

For a back that is 2 inch shorter than the back post, you will need the 1 inch pin. Once installed the 1 inch pin will give an extra length of 1 inch on each side of the back post so it can reach a 2 inch shorter back. Ex. If you have a 20 inch wide back post and have an 18 inch back, you will need the 1 inch back extension pin.

1.5 Inch extension pins are to fit an odd size back to an even size back post. E.x. If you have a 15 inch back and you have an 18 inch wide back post on your wheelchair. The 1.5 inch extension gives you a total increase of 3 inches.

Correct way to measure a back pin is from the bottom of the head to the beginning of the screw as pictured above. For more information about the back pins and their cost. Please contact customer service either by calling or by email.

Terry Fox Run – September 15th 2019

Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and raised in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, a community near Vancouver on Canada’s west coast. An active teenager involved in many sports, Terry was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres (six inches) above the knee in 1977.

While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

He would call his journey the Marathon of Hope. After 18 months and running over 5,000 kilometres (3,107 miles) to prepare, Terry started his run in St. John’s, Newfoundland on April 12, 1980 with little fanfare.

Although it was difficult to garner attention in the beginning, enthusiasm soon grew, and the money collected along his route began to mount. He ran close to 42 kilometres (26 miles) a day through Canada’s Atlantic provinces, Quebec and Ontario. However, on September 1st, after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres (3,339 miles), Terry was forced to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario because cancer had appeared in his lungs. An entire nation was stunned and saddened. Terry passed away on June 28, 1981 at the age 22.
The heroic Canadian was gone, but his legacy was just beginning. To date, over $750 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name through the annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada and around the world.

However, majority of all children and adolescents aged 6-14 lack fundamental reading and math skills, even though most of them are attending school.
