August 12th is International Youth day. It was first initiated in August 12th 1999 by the General Assembly of the United Nations to create awareness for cultural and legal issues surrounding our youth.
“There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in the world. This is the largest youth population ever. But 1 in 10 of the world’s children live in conflict zones and 24 million of them are out of school. Political instability, labour market challenges and limited space for political and civic participation have led to increasing isolation of youth in societies.” – United Nations.
“The hopes of the world rest on young people. Peace, economic dynamism, social justice, tolerance — all this and more, today and tomorrow, depends on tapping into the power of youth.” — UN Secretary-General António Guterres
Our youth need places that are safe for them to get together, participate in activities which interests them and their needs. Make decisions free and express themselves. Places such as public where our youth could participate in sports and other leisure activities within their community. Online spaces where they can virtually interact with others around the world and civic places where they can engage in government issues. These safe places will encourage our youth to be more active and express themselves in a much better way.
